What is this “Reality” thing anyways?

If you know anything about me then you know I am big on seeing the potential in things that are NOT there that can add to a story… well the past 24 hours haven’t been any different…

Yesterday I found myself 6 inches from the edge of the roof of a 9 story building in Washington D.C. going after “the shot”. Due to my adventurous past (perhaps even too adventurous) being that close to the edge didn’t even phase me though my subject and his coworker seemed worried enough for all of us. I wasn't letting this shot get away though. We had planned it months ( if not a year ) before but first had to wait for a new sign to be installed and then for decent weather. Though it was a windy day I still used my 5 ft Parabolic Umbrella and just prayed it didn’t go sailing away while crashing my strobe onto the hard concrete roof patio.

In the end we got several great photos and had a lot of laughs. When I started to edit the photos I saw the potential that I mentioned above. With such dynamic photos it’s easy for my mind to start imagining the possibilities of what they could be. So then I start creating different versions. The version that I like the most is that one I call “Vanilla Sky” ( below ) since I took away the clear blue sky and added some clouds. As if that wasn’t enough I then proceeded to replace the reflections in the windows with a more subdued clouds… and hey since I am just creating this fairytale land why wouldn’t I add some sunburst in a higher window and then reflect some of it’s light on my subject?! Well of course I did for one of the image versions because at the end of the day I’m a dreamer. Making what I see in my mind’s eye come to fruition for my clients and surprising the Hell out of them is kind of my thing.

Here’s my message….and I don’t care what you do for a living or your hobby. Have fun, dream and imagine what could be. I just changed an image here BUT dreamers… well they change the world.

P.S. Yes, all of this could have been done in camera minus the clouds in the windows because they were too high to catch a reflection with a CP filter. It would have taken perfect weather and timing but I’m not waiting or letting those things hold me back this day and age.
